Spaghetti Aglio e Olio-Do you twirl with a spoon?

Spaghetti Aglio e Olio-Do you twirl with a spoon?

I debate this with my friends all the time, why do you need to use a spoon to twirl your spaghetti? Especially when it is served in a pasta bowl. Isn't that what the sides of the bowl is for? Well, that is what I was taught, so I don't use a spoon. By the reaction of some friends you'd think I was sitting at a table eating with my fingers! Anyway, I'd love to hear the members position on the matter.

I use a spoon - but Tony (our Italian Chef) gets mad :)

In fact, when I was a kid, I used to cut up the spaghetti with a knife and fork. I know.. brutal. Sorry Tony LOL. Now at least I use a spoon. The challenge with the pasta bowl, is that you invariably keep catching more pasta as you twirl whereas the spoon technique allows you to separate your mouth-size portion first.

I also remember when I was really young, we had a fork with a crank on it like an egg beater. Problem was we have three kids in our family and we only had one fork so we had to get rid of it. Too many fights.
